What is a bohemian style and how you can implement it in your own life and home?

The bohemian style is not only the creative mismatch of elements, it is also a way of life.

A little history…
Bohemians was the term given to the Romany gypsies by the French in the 19th century. Commenting on their choice of eclectic materials and patterns they wore from around the world. The real birth of the boho culture erupted in Paris in the 1850's, during the chaotic time of the french revolution. In the artistic community, money was sparse and so they experimented with old garments and materials expressing themselves through their own fashion as rebellious outsiders of the mainstream. However, the idea of being an individual lived on in counterculture throughout history. In the 1960's and early 70’s, there was a huge influx in fashion and designs inspired by Eastern cultures. The Beatles were particularly influenced by Indian art and music, thus spreading to the rest of the world and creating a new taste for a generation.

What is boho chic?

The boho style has certainly lived on through artists, poets, actors, musicians or anyone who leads a carefree vagabond or irregular lifestyle. Typically categorized by their use of natural fabrics, retro patterns and flair of accessories. It is also the ethos and a way of life that has carried through. Saying ‘up yours’ to a conventional life, choosing to be adventures, students of the world, dabbling in art, music and spirituality, without getting caught up in the headache of the consumerist world.
'Concentrate on what you want to say to yourself and your friends.
Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness.
You say what you want to say when you don't care who's listening.'
 - Allen Ginsberg, 'The Mystery Of The Inner Moonlight'.

What is boho interior design and how it can be done right?

When it comes to boho bedroom decor, it's the lack of structure that counts. Using layers of pattern, textures and bold colours. Embracing cultural designs from around the world. Don't be afraid, you can't go wrong, it's about expressing your own creativity and individuality. Use warm earthy colours and jewel tones like burgundy, brown, or gray. Try layering with throws for sofas and beds. The opposite of minimalism is maximalism; More is more! Displays all your nick-nacks from your world travels, those well-worn books you love and experiment with patterns and materials. Try our boho-inspired bedspreads and sofa throws, like our mustard yellow pineapple print, with handmade fringe. Adding a world-traveled look and cozy aesthetics with our elephant cotton bedspreads. A homage to the Hippy movement and Indian batik print, it has an exquisitely detailed tactile pattern that harks back to the swinging ’60s, so beautiful they can be used as a bedspread or as a wall hanging tapestry.
